Collection: Takahashi Shōtei

Woodblock artist Hiroaki Takahashi, better known by his artistic name Takahashi Shōtei, was born in 1871 in Tokyo. He received this name early on from his uncle when he was apprenticing with him as a young.

Takahashi was a very productive artist and created over five hundred designs until the age of fifty. With his excellent use of light and intricate designs, Takahashi reveals the true beauty of Japan in his works.

Some of his works are held in permanent collections of prominent museums like the British Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
